I’m surprized my camera made it without a problem in all that snow and freezing temperatures.

What can I say, I was expecting something completely different than this.
First of all the city is incredibly dangerous on new year . Every skinhead getting drunk and aggressive for no reason. The good thing is that police is everywhere and that saved me a couple of times not getting beaten or robbed.
Not to mention the fact that 20 minutes before 0:00 the Brandenburg Gate area got so crowded that we literally almost got killed in a stampede . Judging by the number of ambulances afterwards some people really got hurt, and we had to celebrate new year separated in the chaos. From what I have read on the internet, this was supposed to be the biggest open air party in the whole world, with more than a million people gathering at the gate. To me it was just chaos, cold (more cold than I have ever experienced anywhere) and a lot of firecrackers thrown everywhere with no  judgment. All in all it was very interesting to see such thing, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you don’t care too much for your safety .
The new year in Amsterdam, even if the sheer amount of firewarks and crackers was 10 times as big, it was fun, everyone was high (compared to drunk here) and there was a sense of safety that made me enjoy it very much. I will probably go there again.

The next days the city was once again quiet and safe, and sort of boring. But that in some other posts.

-01.01.2009 – ora 01:00.
Ok, deci sa vad daca inteleg bine ce se intampla in jur. Ma aflu in Amsterdam, sunt intr-un restaurant grecesc de revelion si ascult manele. Nu inteleg exact in momentul de fata ce s-a intamplat si cum am ajuns aici asa ca mai mult ma amuz de intreaga situatie, ciocnesc cateva pahare, aprind un joint si imi vad de treaba. Aparent patronul stiind ca suntem romani s-a gandit ca fiind romani asta ascultam. Intentie dealtfel buna, dar… dupa 2-3 adi minune si 12 adi de la valcea se calmeaza lucrurile oricum si situatia revine la normal, farfurii sparte si melodii grecesti cantate de acelasi patron.

-2 ore mai devreme – Ma trezesc in camera de hotel. Trebuia sa ajung undeva, nu mai stiu exact unde. Am uitat sa notez adresa. Dau telefon tuturor, reteaua e ocupata. Incerc sa ma orientez dar esuez lamentabil si ma impac cu ideea ca voi petrece ora 0 in centru, printre olandezi. Ceea ce s-a si intamplat. Mai bine, spectacolul a fost deosebit. Oamenii astia stiu sa petreaca si sa elibereze intr-o seara toata energia negativa acumulata in an, intr-un mare zgomot de petarde si artificii. Niciodata nu mi-am inchipuit ca pot exista atatea petarde pe metru patrat. Nu aveam unde sa calc incat sa nu explodeze ceva la picioare. Si marea diferenta intre ce e acolo si ce era in Bucuresti inainte sa se interzica petardele e ca pe acolo nu prea te trezesti ca vreun idiot iti baga o pocnitoare in gluga. Timp de cateva ore orasul arde, la propriu si la figurat. Iar ce ramane dupa se poate vedea in ultimele poze. Chestiile de pe jos nu sunt petale de trandafiri, sunt hartii de la artificii. A 2-a zi dupa revelion totul e insa luna, nici urma din ce a fost.

-16 ore mai devreme. Avionul aterizeaza. Nu am dormit de 40 ore, sunt mort de racit, zborul cu avionul a fost o experienta psihedelica imbibata in tuse si febra. La aeroport am mari probleme cu vamesii, arat ca un dependent de heroina fara doza zilnica, am cearcane , ochii rosii si privirea pierduta. Ma intreaba de cateva ori ceva pana sa imi dau seama ca incerca sa imi spuna sa imi dau jos caciula sa ma vada. Se uita urat la mine, verifica ceva si in cele din urma reusesc sa trec. Nici nu a rasarit inca soarele asa ca ma invart de nebun in jurul garii pana sa ma pot caza la hotel. Inspir aerul rece si ma simt foarte multumit ca sunt din nou aici.

-1 zi mai devreme - Am venit ca de obicei la servici. Nimic deosebit de facut, termin devreme lucrul si ma duc sa imi fac bagajele.

-2 zile mai devreme : Am luat gripa asta cumplita. Urasc gripa. Prefer sa ma indop cu amoxacilina din prima clipa, dandu-mi sistemul imunitar peste cap decat sa trec prin ea. Mai ales acum ca trebuie sa plec. Asa ca fac ce fac de obicei. Pastile dupa pastile, poate trece.

-4 zile mai devreme – happy birthday to me !

-8 zile mai devreme – Hmm, daca as petrece revelionul in Amsterdam ? Nah !

-26 ani mai devreme : wtf !

Plin de surprize placute si neplacute, un an al descoperirilor si al calatoriilor. Nu cred ca exagerez cand spun ca am trait anul asta mai mult decat restulla un loc. Dar destul despre asta.
